Ukraine in the World’s Top 3: Dominant Victory and New Record in the Billie Jean King Cup

The Ukraine women’s national tennis team, managed by the Svitolina Foundation, secured a commanding 4–0 victory over Poland and, for the second time in history, advanced to the Finals of the Billie Jean King Cup — the world team championship in women’s tennis.

Following this result, Ukraine set a new national record, rising to No. 3 in the world rankings for the first time in history, surpassing last year’s milestone of No. 5. Only Italy and Great Britain currently rank ahead of Ukraine.

The tie took place on April 10–11 in Gliwice, Poland, on indoor clay courts at the PreZero Arena. The Ukrainian team demonstrated a high level of preparation, consistency, and focus throughout all matches.

“For us, it is a great honour and responsibility to represent Ukraine at this level. The team showed maximum focus and unity, which became the key to this victory,” said team captain Illya Marchenko.

Match results:

Marta Kostyuk — Magda Linette: 6–4, 6–0
Elina Svitolina — Katarzyna Kawa: 6–2, 6–1
Nadiia Kichenok / Liudmyla Kichenok — Maja Chwalińska / Martyna Kubka: 7–5, 6–7(4), 6–3
Oleksandra Oliynykova — Linda Klimovicova: 6–4, 6–1

The decisive point came in the doubles match, where the Kichenok sisters secured Ukraine’s third win of the tie, guaranteeing an early overall victory and qualification for the Finals.

Special recognition goes to Oleksandra Oliynykova, who made her debut for the national team. Her victory over Linda Klimovicova, although not decisive for the final outcome, highlighted the team’s depth and the fighting spirit of the Ukrainian side.

Ukraine’s No. 1 player Elina Svitolina emphasized the team’s unity and motivation: “I’m proud to be part of this team. We step on court with strong motivation — to play for Ukraine and to achieve these wins together.”
