20,000 dollars for winter shoes and clothes for Kharkiv volunteers donated by Elina Svitolina and Sergey Stakhovsky
Ukrainian tennis players have agreed to support the volunteer unit “Charter”, fighting in the Kharkiv region. It is about two and a half hundred motivated fighters, who first held the defense of the Kharkiv region, but in the first half of September, launched a counteroffensive and drove the occupants to the state border in the north of the Kharkiv region. The 74 fighters soon received distinctions from the mayor of Kharkiv “for the city defense” for not letting the enemy enter it at the most challenging moments. Today our flag is flying over Balaklia, Kupianske and Shevchenko’s.”
Now fighters from the “Charter” need winter clothes: jackets, pants and boots. Elina Svitolina and Sergiy Stakhovsky agreed to donate 20,000 dollars to buy the most necessary things for the soldiers. “We decided to support this unit – Kharkiv residents who voluntarily went to defend our land,” says Elina. – Kharkiv is a unique city for me: I moved here when I was 12 years old when I chose a professional athlete path. And two years ago, I was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Kharkiv. Today I consider it necessary to help the volunteers there. Making sure our defenders do not freeze is the least we can do.
“We must all win together. Each Ukrainian must make efforts “on his front,” Stakhovsky believes. – So the military who defend us, go forward and liberate the territory, have everything they need. The inhabitants of occupied towns and villages are looking forward to them. We want to help bring that joyful moment closer.
